Authentic Egg Artistry
Carved and decorated real eggs
Born and raised in Red Deer, Alberta. I studied Commercial Art under Albert Schmidt along with Business practices in Red Deer, I have always been artistically driven. After seeing another artist who worked with eggs, and having had an interest in different eggs, I took an introductory course that soon progressed into egg shell carving. I have been refining my technique for the past 35 years.
Self taught in this medium, I use an Air Tool, which at 350000 RPMs uses dental burrs for speed and clean cuts. Since egg shells are made up of calcium and protein, dental burrs are perfect. I try to create works of wonder and beauty from seemingly fragile material. Meticulous and time consuming, I love to see the transformation of the shell into the final outcome.
Eggs used in my unique creations include Ostrich, Rhea, Duck, Goose, Quail, Guinea fowl, Pheasant Emu and Turkey at this point. A wide variety of techniques are used: painting, carving (straight cuts), etching(3D) and diorama s with scenes inside the egg.
